Becoming a golf club member: how?

If you are serious about golf you are probably going to want to join a golf club, this will give you a chance to play the best courses, or at least courses that are better than the public ones. Joining a club can be a fairly simple process or it can be very difficult depending on the club that you are trying to join.

The first thing that you are going to have to do if you are going to join a golf club is to choose a club to join. You are going to have to look at things like the cost of joining and the annual fees as well as what the club has to offer. Some clubs can be joined for a fairly small amount while others may cost hundreds of thousands of dollars. Obviously they cater to different people so you will want to make sure that you find a club that is appropriate for you.

The next step is to apply for membership in the club. Remember a golf club is a private club; they are under no obligation to allow you to join. There are some clubs that are very restrictive about who is allowed in and they will do a thorough background check on you. Other clubs will allow almost anybody who applies to join. At some of the more prestigious clubs you may have to be invited to join by an existing member and you may be tested to ensure that you fit in at the club. This testing usually involves being invited a few social events so that the other members can see how you do.

Once you have been accepted to join a club you are going to want to look into things like the fees that are charged in addition to the membership. There will always be annual dues and in most cases you will also have to pay for each round of golf you play. Other things to look at would be things like food charges, you may have to pay a certain amount for food each month whether you eat it or not, this is something to find out about.

The last thing that you have to do if you are going to join a country club is to make sure that you read the agreement, including the fine print. You need to make sure that you understand the rules of the club and that you know what the policy is if you decide that you no longer want to be a member of the club. The last thing that you want is to spend a lot of money to join a club only to find out that there are rules that you don't like and then not be able to quit. Find out about these things before you join the club.
