Finding the right set of clubs

Golfers spend a lot of time and money to make sure that they get the best possible set of clubs; however it is important to realize there are no best clubs. Rather there are the best clubs for you, it is important that you know how to choose the right set of clubs.

The first thing that you need to think about when you are looking to get a set of golf clubs is your skill level. The appropriate clubs for a beginner are very different than those that a highly skilled player needs. The beginner is going to want to stick to a set of entry level clubs as they really have no need for the more expensive set. For golfers at the intermediate level you are going to want to get clubs that are fairly forgiving, this will involve sacrificing some distance. The advanced golfer can go with the expensive clubs that you see advertised in the magazines, they offer the best distance but also demand a great deal of practice.

The next thing that you are going to have to think about is what clubs you need. It used to be that all golfers carried basically the same mix of clubs, three woods and eight irons. This is no longer the case and you will see players with all different mixes of clubs. If you are a beginner you should probably stick to the standard set but for more advanced golfers you will want to analyze your game to determine which mix of clubs are the best for you.

The next step to choosing golf clubs is to have your swing analyzed. This is not necessary for the beginner since your swing will likely change anyway. For more advanced golfers however having your swing analyzed will give you a better idea of how stiff the shaft should be and what club head would be best. Most golfers are playing with shafts that are too stiff for them so this is the area where having your swing analyzed will be most useful.

The last step in finding the right clubs is to make sure that you have them sized for you. Any golf shop should be able to do this for you. Using clubs that are the right size will go a long way towards making sure that you get the most out of your game. That being said this is another area where it is not really necessary for the beginner. You will need to have your swing analyzed in order to have the club sized properly. Since the beginner will likely find that their swing changes quite a bit as they learn the game they will probably find that the size of the club they need also changes. At this stage you really only need to get a set of clubs that you can swing comfortably.
